iridescence

two posts in a single day woots. had plans to go out today, but i fell terribly ill, so i decided to take some photos to kill the boredom. i really have no idea what to blog about lately, or rather i have no idea what direction this blog is heading towards. there are like lifestyle blogs and fashion blogs and photo blogs, but i don't want to be mainstream. i mean, my photos aren't very mainstream to begin with, so i really have no direction to go towards. lifestyle blogs would have bloggers posting about food or like their outfits of the day, and fashion blogs would have fashion critiques and runway previews and photo blogs are merely a spammage of photos from their travels or whatsoever. but meh, i really don't know what to blog about. i mean i want to do fashion photography, but i don't have enough connections yet to get me there, and i am a really boring person so if i start introducing lifestyle posts, everyone would probably be bored to death. so yea my posts these days are really random and just a disjunct combination of everything and anything. haha hopefully i find a direction one day, and hopefully i haven't been boring you guys out. till then, peace out~

could you paint some colour in my life.

instaweek

hope everyone had a great saturday, whether you were soaking in the atmosphere at laneway or catching up with your old friends or simply just mulling about in bed all day. remember the photo challenge i posted last sunday, yeap here are my photos through the week, all taken using instagram on my iphone. see, you don't need a dslr in order to take photos~

those little figurines that tower upon us, protecting us

of corroded words and forgotten warnings

through the criss-crosses lies a garden within

beneath faucets and pristine white bowls

that crack upon the wall which trails far and beyond

you see yet you fail to see

those lines and crevices that run through our every day

yep, just some of those things we take for granted each day or we just don't take notice of them at all. meh it's back to work and school tomorrow, hang in there everyone. ooh, i'll be having a few more photoshoots coming up! what with my crazy schedule, it's really hard to find time to organize photoshoots, but i'll be having three fashion editorials and one macabre-themed shoot coming up, do stay tuned~

underwater utopia

sometimes i feel like drowning myself and just forget the world;

dug up some old photos i shot last year and decided to re-edit them. many thanks go to my models cheryl and terry, it was a great experience shooting underwater. i love being underwater, because it's like a realm on its own, it's as if you enter another world, and all the sounds and sights above the water are being blocked out.

been feeling particularly moody these few days, so these photos really speak to me. have you ever wanted to just run away to a secret utopia of yours and just be unconnected from the outside world. it's like your own narnia, your own fantasy, your own playground. it's really nice to have some alone time sometimes, to break free from the dreary and bustling world out there. hope everyone's had a great saturday, enjoy the weekends before we all head back to work and school again. bleh.

explorers

we're all explorers in our own rights and fields. get out there and explore the world, see everything around you in a new light, stop and appreciate your surroundings, and don't be afraid to get lost. only then will you see new things, new people, new buildings, new sights, and the finer beauty in your everyday life. why not let's start by taking one photo for every day of the week, a photo of something you overlook and neglect each day, or something new you explored and discovered, shouldn't be that hard right? look forward to seeing mine next sunday, and till then, have a great week ahead! :)

recollection

what lies ahead, i don’t know.
i’m scared. are you?

last friday, i shot this short film with daniel from onethousandburningsands. it was filmed based on a poem i wrote, a poem about growing up and about entering a new phase in life. well, i just survived the first week of work, it wasn't that bad a experience i guess, but i kind of miss school. i miss the friends, and i miss being able to see familiar faces wherever you go, whenever you want. the grown up world, it's colder, it's harsher, and everyone around you is just a blur. but i guess it's all part of the growing up; things change, people change, we have to change too. meh, don't want this post to turn out sappy but yea here's the poem:

There are about 7 billion people in the world,
But you can’t possibly meet them all in your lifetime.
An average human being lives up to the age of 70,
And every day of our lives, we grow.
We learn. We meet new faces. We visit new places.

Our life is like a journey they say,
You board a train with no return trip,
Get off the next station and hop on to the next train.
Boarding each train with other commuters. Some are strangers.
Some are friends. Some are enemies. Some are family.

The playground of yesteryears,
Where pirates frolicked about with princesses,
And astronauts played hide-and-seek with movie stars.
But now you can’t even recall their names.
Their faces. Their voices. Their innocence.

We all grow up, and we make choices and decisions.
There comes a time when we shed our scruffy young skin
And clamber about in clothes that didn’t really fit us.
And it is at these crossroads that we choose a different path.
A different destiny. A different future. A different life.

It is like a forest with different treks and paths,
Or a train station with an endless service of trains,
And at each station or crossroad, some would follow you,
Others would leave you. And you try to recall their names.
Their faces. Their voices. Their existence.

You get numb to this entire process,
Because it just repeats itself again and again.
Just a name to a face, or a face to a name.
And you waved them goodbye as they set on a different path.
A different destiny. A different future. A different life.

And you just stared out into space,
Because you can’t do anything else.
The end is just a question mark.
What lies ahead, I don’t know.
I’m scared. Are you?

what lies ahead is indeed scary, but i guess if we all live each day with an open mind, and be excited for new challenges that will come our way, our lives would be a fulfilling one. i really enjoyed the entire experience in producing this film. i've always had been acting on stage, but never in front of a camera, so it was a new change for me, so pardon my bad acting and all. but yes, daniel is an incredibly talented film maker, should really go check out his art works, it was a great pleasure collaborating with him. and after filming this, i really want to thank everyone who made my school life enriching and memorable, i will really miss all of you. and to those who have yet to enter this phase yet, please treasure your time with your friends in school. whereas for those who have long lived through this phase, i hope this film rekindled some old memories and feelings for you, so yea go drop a message to your friends now and catch up with them. yea do remember to make time for your old friends and your family, i know it's easier said than done, but yea we'll have to try.

my life is just crazy mad busy now, on top of my job, i am writing for a fashion website too, and i'm directing/acting in a play. ah well, enjoy your weekends, and thank you for reading this long post, i've hoped you enjoyed the film~

wonderland

why is a raven like a writing desk?

i did a photoshoot with chantelle(yihuan) for her modeling portfolio, and we did a modern take on the literary classic 'alice in wonderland'. special thanks to shengyi and nathaniel for helping out with the shoot as well. it was a refreshing experience to shoot someone else other than myself, and i'm sure it'll be refreshing for you the viewers as well. you do not have to put up with my mediocre looks for a post, yay!

always wanted to be a fashion photographer when i grow up, or at least it's one of my many crazy ambitions but yah, hopefully i'll get there someday :)

the short film is still in the middle of post-production, but a teaser is going to be uploaded soon, so do look out for it on my facebook page at www.facebook.com/ablankframe. till then, have a great week ahead!

and the tigers come at night;

yes, the title is from anne hathaway's amazing rendition of 'i dreamed a dream' in the movie 'les miserables'. just watched it the other day, yes i'm slow, but nonetheless it was a really good movie. the song almost brought me to tears, if not for the guy beside me spoiling it for me, breaking my train of tears and sending it back to wherever they came from. thanks a lot. was half expecting myself to fall asleep too, but each song was so powerful and heart wrenching i was awake for the entire 158 minutes, although i admit some parts were rather draggy and boring.

a fairly simple post to end the week; i have been rather busy the past few days and the next two days are even crazier. shot a film yesterday, braving the rain and stares from everyone around us, i think we did a pretty good job so do look out for that soon. i have two photoshoots today and tomorrow, so yep a pretty crazy weekend for me. you can check out sneak previews at my facebook page at www.facebook.com/ablankframe and like it if you haven't already done so. have a great weekend!

houseworks

sometimes we pretend that our lives are much more exciting and magical than they really are;

so i've been cooped up at home for the past month or so, except for the few meet-ups with friends here and there. but that will end next monday, as i'm finally employed! but that also means lesser shoots  and updates. nonetheless i'm really excited to start working, drowning in my oversized office attire, clucking about in business shoes, shuffling my way through the cbd crowd (oh yes i'm working in the cbd area), and shedding my young scruffy teenager skin.

but but i promise to update at least once a week, i already have shoots planned up for the coming weekends. i will be doing a tim burton inspired shoot, an alice in wonderland fashion spread, a cross-genre-collab, and possibly a film collab as well, so yes i'll try to keep my camera running even as i slog my way through the office everyday.

please check out my facebook page at www.facebook.com/ablankframe and like it so you can get regular updates on my posts. i will also be uploading behind-the-scenes photos as well as before/after photos on the page too, so do look out for that! till then, take care~

black and white

not every photo needs to be vibrant and multi-coloured in order for it to be interesting/eye-catching/exciting. though devoid of colours, monochromatic photos can be dramatic too. the lack of colours highlights and accentuates the aesthetic quality of the photo in terms of concept, composition and the emotions conveyed through an image, without it being clouded by a disarray of colours.

oh, and i've found this amazing forest, i've been walking through it like it's my own secret garden~

and we played hide and seek

first photoshoot of the year! i did a collaboration photoshoot with daniel from deblackbook yesterday. it was a really fun experience albeit being caught in the rain, being bitten by bugs and squelching in wet mud. we had this idea of doing a narrative photo series, and we wanted to do an alice-in-wonderland-esque theme. i kind of brought out a dreamlike and slightly macabre feel to the photos through the post production, to create a more fantastical setting. do head over to deblackbook to see daniel's take on the shoot too. there will be more of such collaborations to come, and definitely more photoshoots to look forward to, so do stay tune~
